I probably ought to be concentrating on Easter as that comes before the Royal Wedding, but in actual fact, I’m thinking about both! They are both celebrations, where we can spend time with family and friends and forget the stresses of life. It turns out that my road is having a street party! I’ve never been to one and it sounds so very exciting, but as I’ve already been invited to another party, I’m going to forgo meeting my neighbours on this occasion. I think it’s fantastic that the road will be closed and there will be a real sense of community, which is sometimes lacking in today’s society.
When I was invited to my friend’s party, one of the first things I asked was ‘Can I bring a cake?!’ It seems like a standard question for me and gave me an excuse to have a bit of a play! So the first decisions, are what shape shall I make it and how many tiers? I’d love to go crazy with royal icing and I also want to make some flowers, so I’m now thinking of making two! One would be square, and I can make run-outs and use royal icing and it can be traditional and the other would be round, and I can make flowers and it can be a little more modern!
So, over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be designing and creating two cakes fit for a royal wedding, though these will be on a smaller scale than the actual cake! I’ll update this to show my progress, including the design and decoration. I can’t wait…
In the meantime, I’m also practising and tweaking recipes, such as the macarons above. I was so excited that they rose, they had feet and they didn’t crack! It was such a sense of achievement and it only took 6 attempts for me to be happy! If at first you don’t succeed, keep trying.
